Coalition of Malaysian NGOs in the UPR Process

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a periodic peer review of the human rights records of all UN Member States, with the aim of improving the human rights situation on the ground. The UPR process provides for the participation of all relevant stakeholders through the submission of information to the review, including from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and national human rights institutions (NHRIs).

The Coalition of Malaysian NGOs in the UPR Process (COMANGO) was formed by civil society organisations to engage with the review. It is the biggest civil society coalition of its kind in the UPR process, comprising of over 50 organisations. EMPOWER is a co-secretariat for COMANGO, with Suara Rakyat Malaysia (SUARAM).

COMANGO has been engaging with the UPR process since Malaysia’s first review cycle in 2009. To keep in touch with COMANGO’s work, please follow its Facebook page and Twitter account.
