Networks & Partners

EMPOWER works with organisations at the national and regional level to advance human rights, equality, and non-discrimination. Our regional work includes networks with Forum-Asia, the Solidarity for Asian Peoples’ Advocacy (SAPA), the Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD), the Southeast Asian Women’s Caucus, and the ASEAN Peoples’ Forum.

Our domestic networks include the Coalition For Good Governance (CGG), a coalition of more than fifty CSOs formed to monitor democratic governance within the Klang Valley. EMPOWER was originally its Secretariat and Chair; it now chairs the Taskforce on Local Government Elections.

CGG engages with the Selangor State to bring back local council elections. It has formed taskforces on Urban Poor, Indigenous People and the Environment. CGG submitted a paper on the Kuala Lumpur Draft City Plan 2020. Some of its recommendations were picked up by the Hearing Committee and reflected in the amended draft plan. CGG’s other demands include the enactment of a Freedom of Information Act; and increase people’s participation at local levels.
