Wanita Peneraju Perubahan
The International Women’s Day has been the flagship event for Persatuan Kesedaran Komuniti Selangor (EMPOWER) since 2011. This year, in celebration of grassroot community leaders from Teratai, Kuala Selangor and Subang, we rejoice and record our utmost appreciation and gratitude for their selfless and tireless work in uplifting their communities.
Under the Women’s Political Participation program, EMPOWER has successfully trained 2 Members of Parliament, 3 State Assemblypersons and 3 State Councillors whom had all secured their seats at the recent 13th General Election. “WANITA PENERAJU PERUBAHAN” represents EMPOWER’s mission to promote and support justice and democracy based on feminist and human rights principles by empowering women and youth.
The current statistic of 23 women Members of Parliament out of 222 parliament seats and 57 women State Assemblypersons out of 505 State seats shows how far Malaysia has to go to achieve equal representation in Parliament and State Assembly. EMPOWER is committed to fielding at least 20 women leaders from the grassroot communities in the next General Election to ensure the voices of women are heard in the law and policy making processes.
Please join EMPOWER to celebrate women and their pivotal role toward the full and complete development of a country, the welfare of the world and the cause of peace which requires the maximum participation of women on equal terms with men in all fields.
