POSITION: Advocacy and Capacity-Building Officer, Women’s Political Participation Programme (full-time)

Persatuan Kesedaran Komuniti Selangor (EMPOWER) is seeking an Advocacy and Capacity-Building Officer who is passionate about women’s political equality. Applicants need to be well versed in human rights, gender equality and governance issues. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate maturity, excellent communication, writing and interpersonal skills, and are knowledgeable about Malaysia’s political context and women’s political participation issues in the country.

 

Work Scope

 

The Advocacy and Capacity-Building Officer is expected to:

  1. Lead the development of EMPOWER’s Women’s Political Participation Programme and coordinate its implementation to advance EMPOWER’s vision and mission.
  2. Lead the identification, development and implementation of critical strategies and interventions in relation to capacity-building, research, resource development and advocacy to advance women’s substantive participation in politics and governance issues at village, local and national levels.
  3. Monitor and ensure documentation of human rights issues faced by women in governance, women in positions of leadership and decision-making, and women in politics.
  4. Contribute documentation of human rights issues in the area of women’s political participation and other related areas for international and national reporting processes.
  5. Initiate and coordinate responses to public issues pertaining to Women’s Political Participation.
  6. Establish, update and grow EMPOWER’s network and database of women in politics, including women in governance at village and local levels.
  7. Foster relationships with key actors and leaders in raising awareness on the critical need for enabling women’s political participation and ensuring greater representation of women in politics and governance, including the development of strategic partnerships.
  8. Contribute to developing content, communication resources and advocacy material based on EMPOWER’s research and experiences in developing capacities in the area of Women’s Political Participation.
  9. Contribute to building strategic networks and partnerships to advance women’s substantive and equal participation in politics.
  10. Support in ensuring the public relevance and visibility of EMPOWER’s Women’s Political Participation Programme.
  11. Support EMPOWER in resource development.

 

Threshold Requirements

 

The successful applicant will be joining a motivated, dedicated team of staff and executive committee with a diverse range of specialties and experiences. Our ideal candidate will:

  1. Be a Malaysian citizen.
  2. Be highly motivated and committed to the vision, mission and value statement of EMPOWER.
  3. Support the advancement of human rights, equality, and non-discrimination in Malaysia.
  4. Be strategic and analytical, with the ability to communicate ideas effectively.
  5. Have strong leadership and inter-personal skills, and be able to work independently or as part of a team.
  6. Have spoken and written communication skills in Bahasa Malaysia and English. Knowledge of other languages is an advantage.
  7. Possess experience in developing and delivering effective capacity-building workshops and the development of relevant information and communication resources.
  8. Demonstrate general ICT skills and adequate technical knowledge with social media platforms.
  9. Possess at least two (2) years of effective experience working in the area of women’s political participation, good governance, policy development, and/or development justice. Applicants with less years of work experience may be considered dependent on demonstrated skills and past accomplishments.
